How to use PayNow

Everyday payment guides

Pay via DuitNow QR

Scan a supported Malaysian DuitNow QR and review the exchange rate and recipient before payment.

Register for PayNow

Link an eligible mobile number and/or NRIC/FIN to your preferred UBGROUPSG account.

Add a payee

Choose the PayNow proxy type, enter the proxy and verify the displayed recipient name.

Transfer via PayNow

Select a registered payee or enter a proxy, add the amount and confirm the transfer.

Generate a PayNow QR

Create a personal QR code in UBGROUPSG Pulse so another person can scan it to pay you.

Transfer to a VPA

Pay an eligible non-bank financial institution account using its Virtual Payment Address.

Transfer to PromptPay

Send funds to an eligible Thailand PromptPay mobile number after reviewing the rate and fees.

Getting started

Register in UBGROUPSG Pulse or by SMS

PayNow supports a mobile number, NRIC/FIN, company UEN or Virtual Payment Address. Only NRIC is accepted as the proxy for eligible government payments.

NRIC / child’s Birth Certificate

SMS to 71423

PAYNOW T1234567E 8888 NRIC

Use: PAYNOW, a space, the full NRIC or Birth Certificate, a space, the last four account digits, a space, then the word NRIC.

Bank-registered mobile number

SMS to 71423

PAYNOW T1234567E 8888 Mobile

Use the same format and enter the word Mobile in the final field; do not type the actual mobile number there.

Registering children and joint accounts

PayNow for a child

A parent may register a child’s Birth Certificate number or eligible mobile number to a supported child account, subject to account and guardianship requirements.

Joint Savings or Current Account

An eligible PayNow proxy may be linked to a qualifying joint account where registration conditions are met.

Changing banks

Deregister the proxy from the other bank before registering that same mobile number or NRIC/FIN with UBGROUPSG.

Verify the registered name

Review the masked registered recipient name shown by PayNow and make sure it belongs to the intended person or business.

SCAMS

Never approve an unknown request

Do not disclose your password, PIN or one-time password. Stop and contact the bank if a payment instruction seems suspicious.

Important notice

From 6 June 2026, PayNow nicknames are replaced by masked registered names to help customers identify recipients. Service availability, limits, cross-border exchange rates, fees and eligibility are governed by the applicable UBGROUPSG and PayNow terms.
